I am a collector of words

Words feed me, free me, comfort, uplift and heal me. I've been saving my favorites in books, handwritten over the years and thought that perhaps in sharing them, not only am I preserving them for myself, but perhaps others may also find healing in them as I have.

Love of Truth

"Who would you be without your story?  What do I defend against?  What could anyone say that would hurt me?  I need to look at that.  Otherwise I live as a facade in the world. What could you say that would bring me anger?  That's the pearl.  That's the diamond.   What do I fight?   What am I at war with?  Any thought I have that would tear you down as an enemy, I would question, and then it drops and I see you.  Any thought I hold as an obstacle between us, I question it.  In my experience, I go in for the love of truth.  That's the thing that cannot be broken.  That's what's present."  Byron Katie

  1. How can you teach, give up your story by telling your own story?

  2. Quotes by Jacqui Banaszynski from the book, Telling True Stories, from the Nieman Foundation at Harvard University.
"Stories are our prayers. Write and edit them with due reverence, even when the stories themselves are irreverent."
"Stories are parables. Write and edit and tell yours with meaning, so each stands in for a larger message, each story a guidepost on our collective journey."
"Stories are history. Write and edit and tell yours with accuracy and understanding and context and with unwavering devotion to the truth."
"Stories are music. Write and edit and tell yours with pace and rhythm and flow. Throw in the dips and twirls that make them exciting, but stay true to the core beat. Readers here stories with their inner ear."
"Stories are our soul. Write and edit and tell yours with your whole selves. Tell them as if they are all that matters. It matters that you do it as if that's all there is."

  3. Thus if you give up your story you give up your prayers, your guidepost, your history, your music, your soul.

  4. To be taught to give up your story by a teacher that does it by teaching her story, leaves you with her prayers, her guidepost, her history, her music, her soul.
